Article of the Month: The Benefits of Staying Hydrated
Drinking enough water is important not only to satisfy your thirst, but to maximize your workout and better your health.
Everyone knows the importance of drinking water for your fitness. When you exercise, you sweat, and when you sweat, you lose a great amount of fluid. Our bodies are made up of mostly water, therefore even the slightest shortage can make you dehydrated, (an insufficient amount of water in your system). Dehydration causes an increase in blood thickness simply means decreased blood, nutrients and oxygen to working muscles of the body; it negatively affects your heart rate; and it compromises energy systems in your muscles. There's a drop in your energy levels, so you don't get as much from your fitness workout when you're dehydrated. That's why drinking water is stressed as part of the fitness program. There are also many benefits known to be associated with staying hydrated (especially throughout the warmer months), some of which are; it increases physical and mental alertness, provides extra moisture to all of the body systems, provides an increase in energy and research also shows that staying hydrated can be a protective factor for many health problems.
